About Us
A Legacy of Haulage Excellence
M. Way & Son (Transport) Ltd has been a cornerstone of the haulage industry since its founding in 1973. What began as a humble operation with a single second-hand Dodge 500 flatbed lorry has grown into a fleet of 100 trucks, covering North Devon and beyond.
The company was founded by Mervyn and Helen Way, with Helen managing administration from their home while raising their two children, Nick and Karen. Over the years, steady and organic growth has been at the heart of the business, a principle Mervyn has always upheld:
“I am not a risk taker, and the business has grown organically based on the quality of service we have always provided. It’s been about making the right decisions at the right time and taking the right opportunities when they have arisen.”
A Community Champion
Beyond the business, Mervyn has made a significant impact on South Molton. He has served as Mayor, been a Town Councillor, and continues to support local sports teams, the Rotary, and the South Molton Town Band. His contributions to the community earned him a prestigious award from the Road Haulage Association, recognising his 50 years in the industry.
M. Way & Son have proved that “where there’s a wheel, there’s a Way.”
Growth and Expansion
In the 1980s, the fleet expanded to nine vehicles, transporting bulk loads such as coal and clay. By 1992, the business moved to Southley Road, South Molton, and continued to grow, acquiring companies such as Eggbeer’s Transport in 2005, W. E. Johns Transport in 2008, and Heltor Bulk Haulage in 2017—achieving Mervyn’s long-time goal of running a fleet of 100 vehicles.
Today, three generations of the Way family are involved in the business, including Mervyn and Helen’s grandchildren: Rebecca in Accounts, and Damon and Ryan in the Workshop.
